The original bevel gear is held to the differential case by using three 8K-6630 Dowels (4). The dowels must fit tightly between the bevel gear and the differential case if the bevel gear and the differential case are reused. The original 8K-6630 Dowels (4) must be replaced with larger 8K-6631 Dowels if either one of the following conditions exist.
The dowels do not fit tightly between the bevel gear and the differential case.
The differential case or the bevel gear is replaced.Use the following procedure in order to use the larger 8K-6631 Dowels .
Heat the bevel gear to a maximum of temperature of 120 °C (250 °F). Install the bevel gear onto the differential case.
Install twelve 4K-7502 Bolts (1), twelve 4K-2287 Hard Washers (2), and six 5H-6371 Locks by using lubricant. Use the locks on alternate bolts. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 134 12 N m (100 10 lb ft).
Enlarge the diameter of the three original dowel holes (4) by using a 22.2 mm (.875 inch) core drill. Do not deepen the existing holes. Ream the existing holes to 23.000 0.0127 mm (.9060 .0005 inch). A 23.0124 mm (.906 inch) reamer should be used for this procedure.
Install three larger 8K-6631 Dowels (5) so that the dowels are flush with the face of the differential case.
