Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Make sure the pin bores in the fore boom, the stick, and the stick cylinder are clean and free of dirt prior to installation of the stick cylinder.
Note: Check the seals and the bearings in the pin bores of the stick cylinder. If any of these components are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

Fasten a suitable lifting device to stick cylinder (3). The weight of stick cylinder (3) is approximately 324 kg (715 lb). Position the stick cylinder on the boom and the stick. Make sure that the pin bores in the stick are in alignment with the pin bores in the stick and the boom.
Apply a thin coat of Tooling (A) on pin assemblies (2) and (5). Temporarily install the spacers and two pin assemblies. Note: Do not remove the suitable lifting device from the stick cylinder at this time.

Slide the stick cylinder to one side until the cylinder contacts the boom and the stick. Measure the total clearance between the stick cylinder and the boom and the stick cylinder and stick at each pin bore. The total clearance of (a) and (b) may not be more than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch) at each pin bore. If the total clearance is less than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), the addition of shims between the stick cylinder and stick will not be necessary. If the total clearance is more than 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), add the correct thickness of shims in order to obtain the necessary clearance.
If shims need to be installed between stick cylinder (3) and the boom and/or installed between stick cylinder (3) and the stick, remove pin assemblies (2) and (5) and the spacers. Install the shims between the stick cylinder and the boom and between the stick cylinder and the stick on the opposite side of the retaining bolts. Reinstall the spacers and pin assemblies (2) and (5). Install retaining bolts (1) and (6) that hold the pin assemblies in position. Tighten bolts (1) and (6) to a torque of 325 40 N m (240 30 lb ft).
Remove the plugs from the ends of tube assemblies (4). Check the condition of the O-ring seals that are in tube assemblies (4) prior to installation. If the O-ring seals are damaged, use new parts for replacement.
Connect tube assemblies (4) to the stick cylinder in the tube assembly's original locations.
Connect the lubrication line to the mounting pin assembly at the head end of the stick cylinder.
