Removal Procedure
Start By:
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect" for the machine that is being serviced.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.

Place grapple (1) on wood blocks (2), as shown. Place wood blocks on both the front and the rear side of the grapple.

Place wood block (4) under grapple tong (3), as shown.

Remove locknut (6) and shoulder bolt (5) .

Remove pin (7) .

Carefully lift tong cylinder (8) and place wood block (9) under the tong cylinder, as shown.

Reinstall pin (7), shoulder bolt (5), and locknut (6) to grapple tong (3) .
Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to grapple tong (3). Use the hoist to support the grapple tong.
Remove bolt (11), the washer, and lockplate (10) .

Remove bolt (12) and plate (13) .

Use a hammer and a punch to drive pin (14) toward grapple tong (3) .

Remove lock pin (15) .
Use a hammer and a punch to separate pin (14) from grapple tong (3) .Note: DO NOT remove pin (14) from the tong cylinder.

Use the hoist to carefully remove grapple tong (3). The weight of the grapple tong is 230 kg (500 lb).

Remove two bushings (16) from grapple tong (3) .
Repeat the procedure for the removal of the other tong cylinder.
