FLUID SPILLAGE CONTAINMENTCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools and Shop Products Guide, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the filler cap on the hydraulic oil tank only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Be sure all the hydraulic pressure is released before any fittings, hoses or components are loosened, tightened, removed or adjusted.
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system as follows:a. Shut off the engine.b. Move the control levers through their full travel strokes. This will relieve any pressure that may be present in the pilot system.c. Slowly loosen the air breather cap on the hydraulic oil tank to release the pressure.d. Tighten the air breather cap on the hydraulic oil tank.e. The pressure in the hydraulic system has now been released. Lines and components can now be removed. Drain all fluids in a suitable container for storage or disposal.1. Drain the oil from the hydraulic system. The capacity of the hydraulic system is 190 liters (50 U.S. gal). 2. Install Tooling (B) in the fender (two places). Attach a lifting sling and a hoist, remove bolts (2) and the washers that hold the fender to the hydraulic tank and the machine frame. Remove fender (1). The weight of fender (1) is 86 kg (190 lb). 3. Disconnect three hose assemblies (3) from the hydraulic tank.4. Remove pipes (4) and (5) from the side of the hydraulic tank. 5. Remove air precleaner assembly (10).6. Remove air precleaner tube (7) and bracket (9).7. Remove ladder assembly (8).8. Remove mirror assembly (6).9. Remove panel (12).10. Remove fast fill bracket (11). 11. Attach one Tooling (A) and a hoist to hood assembly (13).12. Remove bolts (14) from the rear hood assembly (13), and remove rear hood assembly (13). 13. Install Tooling (A) along with a hoist on hydraulic tank (15). Remove bolts (16) at the base of hydraulic tank (15).14. Remove hydraulic tank (15). The weight of hydraulic tank (15) is 682 kg (1500 lb). The following steps are for installation of the hydraulic tank. 15. Put hydraulic tank (15) in position on the platform with Tooling (A) and a hoist. Install bolts (16) at the base of hydraulic tank (15). 16. Install pipes (4) and (5) on the side of the hydraulic tank.17. Connect three hose assemblies (3) to the hydraulic tank. 18. Install fast fill bracket (11).19. Install panel (12).20. Install mirror assembly (6).21. Install ladder assembly (8).22. Install air precleaner tube (7) and bracket (9).23. Install air precleaner assembly (10). 24. Attach one Tooling
