13. Remove pin (11), and remove rear suspension cylinder (8) from the machine. The weight of the rear suspension cylinder is approx. 624 kg (1373 lb). 14. Remove bearings (12) using tooling (C), from both upper and lower portion of the frame. Bearings (12) will have to be destroyed to remove. Bearings are installed in the frame support to prevent damage to the frame when pin (11) is removed. After pin is removed inspect bearings carefully for wear. If necessary replace bearing.Install Rear Suspension Cylinders
If any additional or more specific information is required concerning the suspension cylinders, refer to Caterpillar Systems Operation Testing & Adjusting 789B Truck Suspension Cylinders SENR3436 1. Using Tool (A) install bearings (12) into frame prior to installation of the suspension cylinders. Clean all areas of the frame and differential assemblies prior to installation of bearings (12). Using a file, remove any rough areas from the support assemblies that would damage bearing (12) during installation. Bearing (12) is a split expansion type bearing. It will be necessary to compress it to allow initial entry into the frame and the differential. A light coat of oil to the outside of the bearing may be desirable to assist with proper installation
Typical Example2. Fasten a hoist and tool (B) to rear suspension cylinder (8) as shown.3. Put the rear suspension cylinder in position on the differential housing, and install the pin that holds it in place. 4. Put two washers (9) in position on the ends of the pin, and install bolt (10) and the nut.5. Remove tool (B) from the bottom of the rear suspension cylinder.
Typical Example6. Use the hoist to put the top of the rear suspension cylinder in position in the frame. Align the hole in the frame with the bearing in rear suspension cylinder (8). Install pin (7).
Typical Example7. Put washers (6) in position in the ends of the pin, and install bolt (5) and the nut. 8. Install payload monitoring system lines (2) on cylinder.9. Connect lubrication connections (1) and (3) to the ends of the rear suspension cylinder.10. Remove the two 50 ton screw jacks from under the machine.11. Charge the rear suspension cylinders with oil and nitrogen. To prevent possible personal injury, make sure all of the nitrogen has been released from the cylinder before it is disassembled.
1. Remove the guard from the rear suspension cylinder. 2. Use tool (A), and remove snap ring (1) from each side of bearing (2).3. Remove bearing (2) from the end of the cylinder. 4.
