Schematic Of The Direction Clutch Solenoid 2Service Notes: Ensure that the CID 0642 FMI 03 fault is on hold. Ensure that the fault is ACTIVE. Use table 1 to determine the solenoids that are energized in the various positions of the shift lever. An easy check of the solenoids can be done by placing a steel washer next to the solenoid that should be energized. The solenoid becomes magnetic when the solenoid is energized. The washer should be attracted to the energized solenoid.

SOLENOID INFORMATION
Shift Lever Position     Solenoid Energized
Neutral     4
Forward 1     2 and 6
Forward 2     3 and 6
Forward 3     2 and 5
Forward 4     3 and 5
Forward 5     2 and 4
Forward 6     3 and 4

Reverse 2     1 and 5
Reverse 3     1 and 4    A CID 0642 FMI 03 fault is recorded when the ECM senses a short to + battery in the solenoid circuit.
CHECK FOR A SHORT TO +BATTERY.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the ECM.
At the machine harness connector, check for continuity from solenoid output J1-4 to +battery (J1-1). Turn ON the various +battery circuits of the machine to check for shorts from these circuits to wire 752-YL. Headlights and the heater are examples of + battery circuits.Expected Result: There is no continuity. Results:
YES - There is NO continuity. The solenoid harness is not shorted to +battery. Go to Step 2.
NO - There is continuity. The solenoid harness is shorted to +battery. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.
CHECK FOR A SHORT TO OTHER SOLENOID OUTPUTS.
Check for continuity from the faulty solenoid output to the other solenoid outputs. The other solenoid outputs are listed here: Solenoid 1 (J1-10), Solenoid 3 (J1-17), Solenoid 4 (J1-11), Solenoid 5 (J2-7) and Solenoid 6 (J2-1)Expected Result: There is continuity to one of the circuits. Results:
YES - There is continuity. The solenoid harness is shorted. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harness.
NO - There is NOT continuity. The circuitry of the solenoid harness is correct.
INSPECT THE CONNECTOR CONTACTS AND RECHECK FOR A FAULT.
Inspect the harness connector contacts. Repair any faulty contacts.
Reconnect the harness connector to the ECM. Check the ECM for an ACTIVE CID 0642 FMI 03 fault. Expected Result: The fault is not present. Results:
YES - The fault is not present. The initial fault was probably caused by a poor electrical connection or a short at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and reconnected. Resume normal machine operation and watch for a recurrence of the fault.
NO - The fault is still present. It is unlikely that the ECM is faulty. Exit this procedure and perform this CID FMI procedure again. If the cause is not found, replace
