Install plate (8) and bolts (9). Tighten bolts (9) in order to seat the bearings.
Position Tooling (N) through the small hole near the center of plate (8). Measure the distance from the bottom surface of plate (8) to the pin. Measure the thickness of plate (8) and subtract that amount from the original distance that was measured. This determines the amount of shims that is needed under plate (8).

Remove plate (8) and add the measured amount of shims from Step 36. Tighten six bolts (9) to a torque of 530 70 N m (390 50 lb ft).

Use the following steps to determine the shim pack that is required for upper plate (17).
Tighten bolts (16). Note: Do not tighten bolts (15) at this time.
Position Tooling (N) through the small hole near the outside bolt pattern of plate (17).
Measure the distance from the top of plate (17) to the surface of the upper boss.
To determine the required amount of shims, subtract the thickness of plate (17) from the measured distance.

Remove plate (17) and add the amount of shims (18) from Step 38. Tighten bolts (15). Tighten bolts (16).

Lower the temperature of the lower hitch pin to −62° 10°C (−80° 50°F).
Use a suitable lifting device and Tooling (L) to install lower hitch pin (23) into the bores of the lower hitch.

Install lower plate (21), bolts (20), and bolts (19).

Install hexagonal cap (22) in the threaded hole of lower hitch pin (23).

Connect steering frame lock (24). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".

Install bracket assembly (14).
Install the neutralizer valves and mounting plate (13).
Install tube assemblies (11) and (12). Connect hose assemblies (10).

Install steering cylinder pin (7) and pin retainer (6). Repeat this step for the steering cylinder on the opposite side of the machine.

Connect harness assembly (1). Install harness clip (5).
Install clamp (2) in order to fasten harness assembly (1) to the rear main frame.
Connect hose assemblies (3) and (4).
Lubricate the upper hitch assembly and the lower hitch assembly. Refer to Operation and Maintenance, "Articulation Bearings - Lubricate".
Fill the oil into the hydraulic tank into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil (Implement and Hydraulic Fan) - Change".
Fill the oil into the hydraulic tank into a suitable container. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil (Steering and Brake) - Change".
Start the engine and check for leaks. Check for proper operation of the implements. Note: After the steering frame lock is separated, check for proper operation of the steering system and of the brakes.End By:
Install the center drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install".
Install the cab and the platform. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Cab and Platform - Install".
Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
