1. With the stick fully extended and the bucket open, lower the boom on to tooling (A). Lower the bucket to the ground.
To prevent personal injury, stop the engine and move the control levers backward and forward to release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Slowly loosen the cap of the hydraulic tank to release any pressure in the tank. Be cautious of hot hydraulic oil when any lines are disconnected in the hydraulic system.
2. Disconnect two hydraulic lines (2). Cap or plug all openings as each hose is disconnected.3. Fasten a hoist to both ends of boom cylinder (1) as shown. 4. Remove bolt (6) and plate (5) from each side of the pin.5. Remove two bolts (8) and remove plate (7).6. Remove plate (4) and plate assembly (3) as a unit. 7. Remove bolt (10) and remove pin assembly (9). 8. Raise boom cylinder (1) to a horizontal position. Remove pin retaining bolt (11) and remove pin (12).9. Remove boom cylinder (1). The weight of the boom cylinder is 125 kg (275 lb).10. Clean the pins and the pin bores. Put 5P0960 Multipurpose Grease on the pin bores. Install the boom cylinder in the reverse order of the removal.Disassemble & Assemble Boom Cylinder
Start By:a. remove boom cylinder1. Put the boom cylinder on tool (A).2. Use tool (B) and unscrew cylinder head (17) from cylinder body (16). Slide the cylinder body away from rod assembly (18).3. Remove wear ring (1) from piston (15). Remove seal (2) and expander ring (10).4. Remove nut (13) securing piston (15) to rod assembly (18). Remove the piston from the rod assembly.5. Slide cylinder body (16) back onto rod assembly (18). Screw cylinder head (17) into the cylinder body. Then pull the cylinder body and the cylinder head as a unit away from the rod assembly. Remove cylinder head (17) from cylinder body (16).6. Remove O-ring seal (7) and backup ring (8) from cylinder head (17).7. Remove wear ring (3), lip type seal (6) and U-cup seal (5) from cylinder head (17). Remove seal (11) and expander ring (4).8. Push in on plunger (12) to compress spring (14) and remove retainer ring (9) from rod assembly (18). Remove the plunger and the spring from the rod assembly. The following steps are for the assembly of the boom cylinder.9. Install spring (14) and plunger (12) in rod assembly (18). Push in on the plunger to compress the spring and install retainer ring (9).10. Install expander ring (4) and seal (11) in cylinder head (17). Install U-cup seal (5) and wear ring (3).11. Apply 7M7456 Bearing Mount to the wiper seal groove in cylinder head (17) prior to installing wiper seal (6). Install the wiper seal as shown.12. Apply a light film of clean oil on the sealing lips of seals (5), (6) and (11).13. Install backup ring (8) and O-ring seal (7) on cylinder head (17).14. Screw cylinder head (17) in cylinder body (16). Slide the cylinder head back onto rod assembly
