Left Side of Machine
(1) Flywheel housing
(2) Rotor clutch
(3) Clutch oil supply hoseRotor clutch (2) is installed in engine flywheel housing (1) on the left side of the machine. The upper belt guard door allows access to these components. The engine drives the input shaft of engine flywheel housing (1) directly through a flywheel and coupler. The input shaft rotates the pump drive gears and the rotor clutch drive assembly.Rotor clutch (2) is a dry clutch. The clutch separates the input shaft and the output shaft of engine flywheel housing (1). The clutch is the primary means for engaging and disengaging the rotor. When the clutch is engaged, the output shaft drives the rotor drive system. For clutch engagement, hydraulic oil is routed to an actuator through the center of the output shaft and clutch supply hose (3). The clutch is released by spring force.Note: An inspection cover on top of the clutch housing can be removed to measure clutch wear. The outer bearing in the clutch must be lubricated with grease. A Zerk is installed at the end of the clutch housing. The Zerk is located approximately 30 degrees clockwise from the top of the clutch housing. One of the holes in the upper sheave must be aligned with the Zerk to lubricate the bearing.

(14) Rotor unionThe rotor clutch consists of multiple plates and disks. Friction plates (6) and inner disc (9) are sandwiched between backing plate (5) and pressure plate (7). The friction plates are splined to ring gear assembly (4). When the engine is operating, the input shaft of the pump drive housing rotates the ring gear assembly.Backing plate (5) is mounted to a hub which is splined to output shaft (13). The backing plate contains several pins which connect inner disc (9) and pressure plate (7) to the backing plate. The pins allow the inner disc and pressure plate to float along the center axis of the output shaft.Several springs (8) force pressure plate (7) away from backing plate (5). This action allows friction plates (6) to rotate freely with ring gear assembly (4). In this default condition, the output shaft does not rotate with the engine.Output shaft (13) has drilled passages which direct hydraulic oil from rotor union (14) through the shaft to actuator (11). When the clutch is engaged, oil pressure in the actuator acts on piston (10). The force on the piston acts against the force of springs (8) and moves pressure plate (7) toward backing plate (5). This action forces contact between the plates, inner disc (9), and friction plates (6). In this engaged condition, ring gear assembly (4) transmits the engine rotation through the clutch to the output shaft. In this case, the rotor drive system spins the rotor.Three inspection plates (12) are available for clutch inspection and maintenance. Clutch wear is measured at the gap between the flange
