Information:
(1RF),
EL180 (4EF),
E200B (6KF, 4SG, 6KG),
EL200B (7DF, 5EG) EXCAVATORSProblem:
There have been reports that some excavators are experiencing engine failure when the pump coupling assembly is not installed correctly. A hydraulic pump drive coupling that is not installed correctly can create excessive force against the engine crankshaft thrust bearing. The excessive force can cause the thrust bearing to fail and can result in engine failure.Solution:
The 7I-8884 Coupling connects the engine flywheel to the main hydraulic pump. The hub of the coupling is typically mounted on the input shaft of the main hydraulic pump so that the hub face is flush with the end of the pump input shaft. After the pump is assembled to the engine, apply rearward pressure to the front damper pulley. The crankshaft should then remain in the rear most position confirming a correct installation. If the crankshaft will not remain in the rear most position, the pump will have to be disassembled from the engine. The hub that was mounted on the pump input shaft will have to be repositioned so that the chamfer on the end of the input shaft is visible. This should provide the clearance to eliminate the excessive pressure against the crankshaft thrust bearing.COPYRIGHT 1997 CATERPILLAR ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
