Information:

1. Remove three bolts (1), washers and cover (2) from the track roller frame. Put identification on shims for correct installation.2. Remove four bolts (3), and washers, shims (4) and plate assembly (5).3. Repeat Step 2 for the opposite side. 4. Remove four bolts (6) and washers that hold idler (7) to the yoke. 5. Attach a suitable lifting device to idler (7) as shown. Slide the idler forward and remove the idler forward and remove the idler from the track roller frame. The weight of the idler is 102 Kg (225 lb). The following steps are for the installation of the front idlers. 6. Attach a suitable lifting device to idler (7) and position on the track roller frame. 7. Install four bolts (6) and washers that hold idler (7) to the yoke. 8. Install original shims (4), plate assembly (5), four bolts (3) and washers.9. Repeat Step 8 for the opposite side. 10. Use a feeler gauge to check the clearance between the plate assembly and the track roller frame. Remove or add shims (4) as needed to get clearance of 1.5 - 3.0 mm (.06 - 0.12 in) between the plate assemblies and the track roller frame.End By:a. connection of tracksDisassemble & Assemble Front Idlers
Start By:a. remove front idler Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide," NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Remove plug (1) and drain oil from the idler. The capacity of the front idler is 170 20 ml (5.8 .7 oz). Remove bolt (2) and washer. 2. Install a 7/16 - 14 forcing screw(3) in the lock pin. Remove the lock pin by striking the forcing screw with a hammer.3. Remove idler bearing (4) from the front idler. 4. Remove Duo-Cone seal (5) from the idler bearing. 5. Remove O-ring seal (6), thrust washer (7) and Duo-Cone seal (8) 6. Turn over idler over and remove idler bearing assembly (9). 7. Remove bolt (10) and washer. Repeat Step 2 to remove the lock pin.8. Remove shaft assembly (12) and Duo-Cone seal (11) from the idler bearing. 9. Remove O-ring (13) from shaft (12). 10. Remove thrust washer (14) and Duo-Cone seal (15). 11. Install Tooling (A) as shown. 12. Using a press, remove the bottom bearing. Turn idler (16) over and remove the opposite bearing. The following steps are for the assembly of the front idler. 13. Install the bearing in idler (16) using Tooling (A) and a suitable press.14. Turn the idler over and repeat Step 13 for the opposite side. Refer to "Assembly And Installation Of Conventional Duo-Cone Seals" in this module.15. Using Tooling (B), install Duo-Cone seal
