Information:

Before removing any component, use the Inspection Procedure, as given in this publication, to determine how much of the power train system needs cleaning.Inspection Procedure
Inspect and clean the components in the sequence listed. If debris IS found in a particular component, proceed to the remaining components. If debris IS NOT found, it is not necessary to inspect and clean the remaining components.Steering Clutch and Brake Failure
1. Sump (tank) [includes: screen, pump, filter-magnetic, power train oil filter].2. Priority valve.3. Steering clutch and brake control valve.4. Transmission control valve.5. Torque converter sump and torque converter outlet relief valve (power shift only).6. HI/LO transmission sump, lube priority valve, and modulation and selector valve (D8L SA only).7. Power train oil cooler.8. Lubrication circuit.9. Follow instructions given under the topic entitled Cleaning Procedure in this publication.Differential Steer Brake Failure
1. Sump (tank) [includes: screen, filter-magnetic, pump, power train oil filter].2. Priority valve and parking brake valve.3. Brake valve.4. Transmission control valve.5. Torque converter sump and torque converter outlet relief valve.6. Power train oil cooler.7. Lubrication circuit.8. Follow instructions given under the topic entitled Cleaning Procedure in this publication.Transmission Failure (Direct Drive and/or Power Shift)
1. Transmission sump screen, filter-magnetic and power train oil filter.2. Transmission control valve.3. Continue the Inspection Procedure with the sequence given under the topic entitled Steering Clutch and Brake Failure.Transmission Failure (Differential Steer)
1. Transmission sump screen, filter-magnetic, and power train oil filter.2. Scavenge pump.3. Continue the Inspection Procedure with the sequence given under the topic entitled Differential Steer Brake Failure.HI/LO Transmission Failure (D8L SA Only)
1. HI/LO transmission sump screen, sump, lube priority valve, and modulation and selector valve.2. Scavenge pump.3. Sump screen.4. Power train oil filter.5. Transmission control valve.6. Continue the Inspection Procedure with the sequence given under the topic entitled Steering Clutch and Brake Failure.Torque Converter Failure
1. Torque converter sump screen, sump, and outlet relief valve (power shift and differential steer only).2. Scavenge pump.3. Power train oil filter.4. Transmission control valve.5. Continue the Inspection Procedure with the sequence given under the topic entitled Steering Clutch and Brake Failure (direct drive or power shift) or Differential Steer Brake Failure (differential steer).Cleaning Procedure
The following guidelines are for the complete power train oil system. All filters referred to in this procedure are pressure filters.1. Drain the oil from the power train oil reservoirs [examples: tank, bevel gear case, transmission, torque converter, hi/lo transmission (D8L SA only) and the flywheel housing (direct drive only)].Remove all screens. Clean, protect, and set them aside.2. Remove the failed component and all other power train oil system components that are fastened to the mainframe (cross tube) [examples: transmission/bevel gear, both steering clutch and brake modules, steering clutch and brake control valve, power train oil pump, and screen housings (except for D10).3. Drain the power train oil filter(s). Remove and discard the contaminated filter element(s). Remove the filter base(s) from the mainframe (except D10). Disassemble the base(s) and clean the components.Assemble the base(s). Make sure all passages are clean, and all spools and poppets are free to move.
