At operating temperature, the hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the fill plug only when the engine is stopped, and the fill plug is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
2. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system by slowly loosening the fill plug located on top of the hydraulic oil tank. 3. Fasten a lifting strap and a hoist to the rod end of the stick cylinder. Put slight lifting tension on the cylinder. Disconnect lubrication hose (1) from pin (2).4. Remove bolt (3), the lock washer and spacer that hold pin (2).5. Remove pin (2). Put a small wood block under the rod end of the stick cylinder, and lower the cylinder on to the wood block. Tie the rod in the stick cylinder back so it can not extend. 6. Fasten a lifting strap and a hoist to the stick as shown. 7. Disconnect two hydraulic hoses (4) at the connector blocks on each side of the stick. Put plugs in the hoses to keep dirt and debris out of the hydraulic system.8. Remove the cotter pin, castle nut (5) and the washer from the end of pin (7) that holds the stick to the boom. 9. Remove the bolt, clip and lubrication tube (6).10. Using two persons, remove pin (7) that holds the stick to the boom. The weight of the pin is 54 kg (120 lb).11. Start the machine, and back it away from the stick.12. Lower the stick to the ground. The combined weight of the stick and bucket cylinder is 1270 kg (2800 lb). Some machines may be equipped with shims between the stick and boom at the stick-to-boom pin joint. For assembly purposes, put identification marks on the shims as to their location.13. Remove the shims (if so equipped) at the stick-to-boom pin joint.

Be sure the pin bores in the stick are clean and free of dirt prior to installation of the bushings and seals.
