The drain valve for the engine crankcase oil is located under the rear of the upper structure.Note: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "General Hazard Information" for information on Containing Fluid Spillage.

Open the crankcase drain valve. Allow the oil to drain into a suitable container.Note: Discard any drained fluids according to local regulations.
Close the drain valve.
Open the engine hood.

Open drain valve (1). The drain valve is located on the bottom of engine oil filter (2). Allow the remaining oil in the filter to drain into a suitable container.
Close drain valve (1) .
Remove the engine oil filter (2). Inspect the oil filter. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Oil Filter - Inspect". Discard the used oil filter properly.
Clean the filter housing base. Remove all of the seal material.
Apply a thin coat of engine oil to the new filter seal.
Place the new engine oil filter onto the base. Rotate the engine oil filter until the filter seal contacts the base. Note the position of the index marks on the filter relative to a fixed point on the filter base. Note: Index marks on the engine oil filter are separated by 90 degrees or 1/4 of a rotation.
You may need to use a Caterpillar strap wrench or another suitable tool in order to tighten the filter. Use the instructions that are printed on the filter in order to tighten the filter. Use the rotation index marks as a guide. Do not damage the filter with the installation tool.Note: If you install a filter that has not been provided by Caterpillar, use the instructions that were provided with the filter.

The oil filler plug for Tier I engines is located as shown above for the following serial numbers: (S/N: BEA1-UPBDE1-UPBBL1-UPBCN1-UP) (3) Dipstick (4) Oil filler plug

The oil filler plug for Tier II engines is located as shown above for the following serial numbers: (S/N: GLA1-UPDBG1-UPJTG1-UPEGL1-UPAXK1-UPBMZ1-UP) (3) Dipstick (4) Oil filler plug
Remove oil filler plug (4). Fill the crankcase with new oil. See Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities". Clean the oil filler plug and install the oil filler plug.
Do not under fill or overfill engine crankcase with oil. Either condition can cause engine damage.
Start the engine and allow the oil to warm. Check the engine for leaks. Stop the engine.

Wait for 30 minutes in order to allow the oil to drain back into the crankcase. Check the oil level with dipstick (3). Maintain the oil between the "H" and "L" marks on the dipstick. If necessary, add oil.
Close the engine hood.
