(7) WearplateNote: Prior to performing the following procedure ensure that the seacock is closed. Water ingress can be a hazard and must not occur during this procedure.
If the impeller is damaged or blades missing, remove the outlet pipe to the fuel cooler and inspect for debris.
Impellers and seals require periodic inspection. Impellers have a service life that is limited. The service life depends on the engine operating conditions.Inspect the components more frequently when the pump is exposed to debris, sand, or other abrasive materials.
Ensure that the seacock is closed.
Release the four setscrews (5) which fasten the endplate (6) of the auxiliary water pump and remove. When the endplate of the auxiliary water pump is removed, some auxiliary water will flow from the pump.
Care should be taken with the seals (4).
Remove the rubber end cap and then pull the impeller from the shaft.
Clean the contact surfaces of the pump body and the wearplate (7).
Inspect the rubber impeller (3) for excessive wear or for damage and renew impeller, if necessary.
Apply Castrol Spheerol SX2 grease to the blades of the new impeller and fit the impeller into the housing with the blades bent clockwise. Refit the rubber end cap and sealing ‘O’ ring.
Fit the wearplate and tighten the end plate setscrews.
Open the seacock.Check the following components for wear or damage:
Bearings
Impeller
Seals
Wear plate
KeyIf wear or damage is found, replace the components which are worn or damaged. Use the proper repair kit for the pump. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly Manual for more information on servicing the auxiliary water pump.If in doubt, it is highly recommended to replace the impeller and seals to ensure the integrity of the engine.
