feature for the transmission hold may be used in order to instruct the ECM to use the hold shift points. These shift points will widen the range of the ground speed for each gear. This range is detected by the ECM. The feature for the transmission hold may be used when the following conditions are encountered:
If you are driving the machine down a grade and the retarder is selected. Consider the ground conditions and consider the degree of the down grade. Use your experience to select the gear that will give the best performance from the retarder. As you approach the down grade, slow the machine until the actual gear indicator displays the appropriate gear. Press the transmission hold switch in order to hold the transmission in the current gear. When the machine is in a forward gear and the machine ground speed increases the ECM will upshift to the next higher gear in order to prevent engine overspeed. This will only occur when the ground speed rises above the upshift point for the hold function. In order to allow the transmission to shift normally through the gears, press the transmission hold switch again when you reach the bottom of the down grade.
As you approach the up grade, press the transmission hold switch in order to hold the transmission in the current gear and prevent unwanted downshifts. When the machine is in a forward gear and the machine ground speed decreases, the transmission/chassis ECM will downshift below the current gear. This will only occur when the ground speed falls below the downshift point for the hold function. In order to allow the transmission to shift normally through the gears, press the transmission hold switch again when you reach the top of the up grade.
If you are driving in soft ground conditions, the transmission might shift frequently between gears. If this occurs, press the transmission hold switch in order to hold the current gear. In order to allow the transmission to shift normally through the gears, press the transmission hold switch again when the ground conditions improve.
