(1) Cover The outlet screen for the torque converter is located behind cover (1) on the upper half. The sump screen for the torque converter is located behind the cover on the lower half. The sump screen also contains a magnet that should be serviced with the screen.
Park the machine on level ground and engage the parking brake. Stop the engine.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Remove cover (1) from the torque converter housing. Note: Some oil may be trapped behind cover (1). Prepare a suitable container to collect any trapped oil.
Remove the screens and the magnet.
Wash the screens and the magnet in a clean , nonflammable solvent. Clean the magnet with a cloth, a stiff bristle brush, or air pressure.
Install the clean screens and the clean magnet. If the screens and the magnet cannot be cleaned properly, install new screens and a new magnet.
Inspect the gasket for cover (1). If the gasket is damaged, install a new gasket.
Install cover (1).
Start the engine and operate the engine at low idle. Check the system for leaks and make any necessary repairs.
Keep the parking brake engaged and leave the transmission in the NEUTRAL position.

(X) Oil level range for cold oil
(Y) Oil level range for oil at operating temperature Note: Check the oil level of the torque converter only if the engine is operating and the transmission is in the NEUTRAL position.
If the oil is at operating temperature, make sure that the oil level is within dimension (Y) of upper sight gauge (2) and lower sight gauge (3). If the oil is cold, make sure that the oil level is within dimension (X) of upper sight gauge (2). Note: Do not add oil to the sump of the torque converter if the engine is operating.
If necessary, add oil. The torque converter oil and transmission oil is added at filler tube (4). If the system has been drained, see Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Torque Converter and Transmission Oil - Change" for the proper procedure.
