Illustration 3 - Terminal Mounting Details
(A) 76 mm (3.0 in) ref. (B) Six 6.35 mm (1/4 in) holes. (C) One 6.35 mm (1/4 in) hole. To mount the terminal strips in the generator enclosure, use the following procedure.1. Choose a suitable location inside the generator enclosure to mount the terminal strips. Make sure that the location of the terminal strips is close enough to the control panel, so that the control panel wire harness will reach the terminal strips. See Illustration 3 for the suggested mounting layout A or layout B. Leave approximately 3 inches of vertical space between each terminal strip, to allow for routing of the wires. One of the provided marker strips can be used as a guide for more accurately determining the terminal strip locations.2. A marker strip is also used as a template for mounting the terminal strips. Using a marker strip as a template, mark the location of the two mounting holes (B) for each of the three terminal strips.3. Use a 1/4 inch bit to drill all the mounting holes (B) for the terminal strips. Drill one additional 1/4 inch hole (C) for fastening the chassis ground strap to the generator enclosure. This hole should be located near terminal No. 50 of the terminal strips. See Illustration 3. When drilling holes in the generator enclosure, take care to keep metal filings from falling into the generator shell. Do not allow any metal shavings and filings to come in contact with internal generator windings or the permanent magnet.4. At the desired location, mount the 7C-4551 Marker Strip (1) and a 4D-1260 Terminal Strip (2) using two 6V-7978 Machine Screws (4) and two 9S-5937 Locknuts (5). Repeat the same procedure for mounting the 7C-4552 Marker Strip (3) and the 108-2780 Marker Strip (7).5. At previously drilled hole (C), scrape away the paint from around the hole in order to ensure that a good electrical connection is made. At hole (C), attach one end of the 7W-0922 Chassis Ground Strap using one 6V-7978 Machine Screw (4), one 9F-8125 Toothed Lockwasher (9) and one 9S-5937 Locknut (5). Connect the other end of the chassis ground strap to terminal No. 50.6. Install four 5N-5159 Terminal Strip Jumpers. See Illustration 3.Place two jumpers between the three terminals No. 2.Place one jumper between the two terminals No. 50.Place one jumper between terminal No. 4 and terminal No. 5.
