Use the following procedure to assemble the carrier assembly:
Install bearing (23) in planetary gear (22) .
Place thrust washer (21) on each side of the assembled bearing and planetary gear.
Slide thrust washers (21), bearing (23), and planetary gear (22) into the carrier assembly.
Install planetary shaft (19 ) so that the hole for spring pin (20) aligns with the hole in the carrier assembly.
Use a hammer to drive spring pin (20) into the carrier assembly and the planetary shaft.
Repeat Steps 12.a through 12.e for the remaining planetary gear sets.

Raise the temperature of bearing cone (18). Use Tooling (B) and Tooling (D) to install bearing cone (18) on carrier assembly (14) .
Use a suitable lifting device to place swing drive housing (15) with shaft (27), cage (29), and bearing cone (28) on Tooling (A). Refer to Illustration 7 in order to view the assembly.

Install carrier assembly (14) into swing drive housing (15) .

Apply Tooling (H) to the threads of bolt (12). Install bolt (12). Tighten bolt (12) to a torque of 314 20 N m (231 14 lb ft).

Check the rolling torque. Adjust spacers (25) and (26) in order to achieve a rolling torque of 3.14 1.26 N m (28 11 lb in) plus the seal drag that was recorded in Step 11. Refer to Illustration 8 for the position of spacers (25) and (26) .Note: Make sure that the shaft does not turn when the rolling torque is checked.

Make sure that the dowel pins are in place and install ring gear (11) .
Install sun gear (10) .

Install washer (9) in carrier assembly.

Use the following procedure to assemble the carrier assembly:
Install bearing (8) in planetary gear (7) .
Place thrust washer (6) on each side of the assembled bearing and planetary gear (7) .
Slide thrust washers (6), bearing (8), and planetary gear (7) into the carrier assembly.

Install planetary shaft (4) so that the hole for spring pin (5) aligns with the hole in the carrier assembly (2) .
Use a hammer to drive spring pin (5) into carrier assembly (2) and planetary shaft (4) .
Repeat Steps 21.a through 21.e for the remaining planetary gear sets.

Install carrier assembly (2) in ring gear (3) .
Install sun gear (1) in carrier assembly (2) .End By:
Install the swing drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Swing Drive - Install".
Install the swing motor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Swing Motor - Install".
