Removal Procedure

Remove bolt (1) and the washer from clip (3) .
Disconnect speed/timing sensor connector (2) .
Remove speed/timing sensor (3) .

Remove O-ring seal (5) from speed/timing sensor (4) .
Extend slip head (6) for the installation procedure.Installation Procedure
Inspect the condition of the O-ring seal. Replace the seal, if necessary.
The No. 1 piston must be at either top center of the compression stroke or top center of the exhaust stroke. After sensor installation the electronic timing must be recalibrated.
Note: Refer to the Troubleshooting Manual, "Engine Speed/Timing Sensor Calibration".

Install O-ring (5) and extend slip head (6) .

Note: Ensure that the top of a gear tooth is visible through the speed/timing sensor opening in the front housing prior to installation. See Illustration 4.

Install speed/timing sensor (4). Tighten the sensor to a torque of 40 5 N m (30 4 lb ft).
Connect speed/timing sensor connector (2) .
Install clip (3) with bolt (1) and the washer.
Recalibrate the timing.
