Information:
Test Step 1. CHECK THE MECHANICAL LINKAGE
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Remove any guards or shielding for the articulation sensors.
Check the mounting bolts for the articulation sensors. Ensure that the sensors are securely mounted.
Visually inspect the mechanical linkage for the articulation sensors. Verify that all mechanical components are tight and that all mechanical components are in good condition. Verify that the adjustment of the linkage is correct. Expected Result:All mechanical linkage and adjustable components for the articulation sensor(s) are in good condition and no mechanical connections are loose. Results:
OK - All mechanical linkage and adjustment for the articulation sensor is correct. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - All mechanical linkage and adjustment for the articulation sensors is not correct. Repair: Perform the maintenance that is required in order to correct the problem with the mechanical connections for the articulation sensor(s). After the problem has been corrected, verify that this diagnostic code is still active before proceeding with this procedure.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL OF THE SENSOR
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the back of the harness connector for the sensor, insert 7X-1710 Multimeter Probes along return contact B (wire X800-OR(Orange)) and insert a probe along the signal contact C (wire U768-BU(Blue)).
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Monitor the signal of the sensor with a digital multimeter.
Without disconnecting the sensor or the hardware that is associated with the sensor from the machine, take the sensor through the full operating range. Expected Result:The signal of the sensor responds in the manner that is described at the beginning of this procedure. Results:
OK - The signal of the sensor responds correctly. The sensor is operating correctly. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The signal of the sensor does not respond correctly. The sensor is not operating correctly.Repair: Replace the "Articulation Angle 2" sensor. After the replacement of the sensor, the sensor must be calibrated. Reference Testing and Adjusting, RENR9013, "Implement Electronic Control System", "Calibrations" for information on the method for accessing the calibration procedure for the articulation sensor.STOPTest Step 3. CHECK FOR AN OPEN IN THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the sensor.
At the machine harness connector for the sensor, connect a jumper wire between return contact B (wire X800-OR(Orange)) and signal contact C (wire U768-BU(Blue)).
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the "Transmission/Chassis ECM".
At the machine harness connectors for the "Transmission/Chassis ECM", measure the resistance from return contact J1-45 (wire X800-OR(Orange)) to contact J2-17 (wire U768-BU(Blue)).
Observe the resistance measurement and wiggle the ECM connector and the sensor connector. Gently pull on the wires and wiggle the wires for both connectors. Expected Result:The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms at all times during the manipulation of the wiring harness. Results:
OK - The resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms. The resistance measurement is not
