Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, PERJ1017, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Drain the radiator into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
Open the front hood and the rear hood.

Remove bolts (1) and the clips that hold the harness assemblies and the cable assembly to tube assembly (2).

Position a suitable lifting device to support assembly (2). The weight of support assembly (2) is approximately 23 kg (50 lb).
Loosen the clamps and remove hose (3) from the radiator.

Position Tooling (A) under the frame, as shown. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS1328, "Lift Group (Stand - 60 Ton)" for more information on Tooling (A).

Put identification on support assembly (2) for installation purposes. Remove bolts (4) and the shims that are located between support assembly (2) and the frame assembly. The shims will be inserted in the same position during the installation of support assembly (2).
Remove support assembly (2) from the machine.

Remove bolt (5). Remove bolt (6) and brace (7).
Remove bolts (8) and the brace that holds fan guard assembly (9) and (10) together.
Remove bolts (11) that hold fan guard assemblies (9) and (10) to the radiator. Remove fan guard assemblies (9) and (10) from the machine.

Position a suitable lifting device (not shown) on spider assembly. The weight of spider assembly (13) is approximately 39 kg (86 lb). Remove bolts (12) that hold spider assembly (13) to fan adapter (14). Position spider assembly (13) against the radiator.

The V-belts are under tension from the spring. If the wrench slips while releasing the belt tension, personal injury may result. Be sure the wrench is properly engaged with the belt tightener.
Carefully release the tension of the spring on V-belts (15). Remove V-belts (15).

Disconnect hose assembly (16) from the fan drive.

Position a suitable lifting device around fan drive (17). Remove bolts (18) that hold fan drive (17) to the front housing cover. Remove fan drive (17) from the machine. The weight of fan drive (17) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb).
