The adjuster cylinder for the track is under high hydraulic pressure. Do not visually inspect the relief valve to see if grease is released when it is opened. Check the adjuster cylinder to see that it moves to the rear into the front pilot of the recoil spring. This warning applies each time the tracks are loosened or tightened.
1. Loosen the track as follows:a. Turn relief valve (1) one turn counterclockwise to permit the grease to be released from the vent hole below the relief valve. If the track does not loosen, go to Step b.b. Turn fill valve (2) one turn counterclockwise to permit grease to be released from the vent hole below the fill valve. If the track still does not loosen, start the machine and move it forward and backward. If grease is still not released, go to Step c.c. Install a slug that is 76.2 mm (3 in.) in diameter and 63.5 mm (2.5 in.) long between the track and sprocket segment. Move the machine to the rear so the track will be pushed up by the bar. This will put tension on the track and move the front idler and track adjuster to the rear against the force of the recoil spring. This will push grease out of the vent holes. 2. Remove the rear track carrier roller as follows:a. Remove guard assemblies (4) and (3). b. Put wood blocks across the track roller frame as shown. Install tool (A). Make sure the end of the hydraulic jack is in contact with the flat part of the track grouser shoe. Lift the track with tool (A) until it is off of the carrier roller.c. Loosen bolt (5). Do not remove the bolt. Remove the other three bolts that hold the bracket and carrier roller to the track roller frame. d. Turn the carrier roller 180° as shown and fasten it to a hoist. Remove bolt (5) and track carrier roller (6). The weight of the roller is 36 kg (80 lb). 3. If necessary, remove the front track carrier roller as follows:a. Put tool (A) in position on the equalizer bar as shown. Lift the track off of the front carrier roller.b. Remove the front track carrier roller as in Steps 2a through 2d.Install Track Carrier Rollers
1. Install the rear track carrier roller as follows:a. Fasten a hoist to carrier roller (6) and position it on the track roller frame. Install one bolt to hold it, but do not tighten the bolt.Remove the hoist from the carrier roller and turn it 180° or until all the bolt holes in the bracket are in alignment with the bolt holes in the track roller frame. Install the other three bolts that hold the roller. Tighten the four bolts.b. Lower the track into the carrier roller with tool (A). c. Install guard assemblies (4) and (5).2.
