Schematic of the "Transmission Output Speed Sensor #1" CircuitThis diagnostic code is associated with the "Transmission Output Speed Sensor #1". This diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM detects that both Transmission Output Speed Sensors #1 and #2 are connected backwards or are swapped.Note: This diagnostic code is always accompanied by MID 087 - CID 0673 - FMI 07 which is associated with Transmission Output Speed Sensor #2. The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected.
Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0585 FMI 07 is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1. VERIFY THE SOFTWARE VERSION
Verify that the latest software version has been loaded to the Chassis ECM.Expected Result:All of the software is current.Results:
OK - All of the software is current.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
NOT OK - There is a more recent release of the software.Repair: Flash all controls with the latest software release. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program".STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE WIRING
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Check if Transmission Output Speed Sensor 1 is connected to ECM pins J1-15 and J1-16 as shown in Illustration 1 above.Expected Result:The Transmission Output Speed Sensor 1 should be connected to Chassis ECM pins J1-15 and J1-16.Results:
OK - The sensor is connected to pin J1-15 and J1-16.Repair: The sensor is wired correctly. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - The sensor is not connected to pins J1-15 and J1-16.Repair: This sensor is probably connected to J1-17 and J1-18 instead. Correct the problem by fixing this issue (most likely swapping the wires of Transmission Output Speed Sensor 1 and 2). Check to see if Transmission Output Speed Sensor #2 is connected to pins J1-17 and J1-18 (Refer to the MID087 - CID0673 - FMI 07 section). Systems Operation, "Speed Sensor (Transmission Output)" Proceed to Test Step 3. Test Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE IS STILL ACTIVE
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Operate the machine (at or above third gear for at least 30 seconds).
Determine if the CID 0585 FMI 07 diagnostic code is active.Expected Result:The CID 0585 FMI 07 diagnostic code is NOT active.Results:
OK - The CID 0585 FMI 07 diagnostic code is NOT active. The problem has been corrected.
STOP
NOT OK - The CID 0585 FMI 07 is still active. The problem has not been corrected.Repair: Ensure that the Transmission Output Speed Sensors have been wired correctly and that the machine was operated at the specified conditions after the problem was fixed.
If the diagnostic code still exists, perform this procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, contact your dealer Technical Communicator (TC) for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. STOP
