3406B Industrial, Marine, And Generator Set EnginesWhen objects become caught between the oil pump drive gears, the oil pump mounting pad on the cylinder block can break. In many cases this method of retaining the oil pump housing can be used instead of replacing the cylinder block. This method can be used only if 40% or more of the oil pump mounting pad can be supported on the broken cylinder block mounting pad.
1. Fabricate a support block (A) from 12.7 mm (.50 in) thick mild steel as shown in Illustration 1.
