Handle parts and store parts properly.
Inspect all parts for contaminants and defects.
Keep all parts free of contaminants.Refer to Table 2 in order to select the correct bearing.

Only install the bearing in a clean environment. Avoid open doors or fans that might allow dust to be blown into the crankshaft and rod bearing area. If the engine is not in a building, a temporary wall may be necessary in order to control the environment.
If the crankshaft has been turned or polished, the oil passage plugs must be removed. Clean the threaded holes and oil passages thoroughly with a brush and solvent. A new 7W-1632 Plug must then be installed and staked. Apply Loctite Dri- Loc 200 to all of the male threads and all around the circumference of the threads.Torque for the plug ... 300 40 N m (220 30 lb ft)
Rotate the crankshaft in order to position the piston being removed at TDC. Install the 145-5190 Piston Support or the 156-7160 Piston Support As in place of the piston cooling jet.
During the removal process, remove the connecting rod cap. Remove the connecting rod bolts.
Rotate the crankshaft journal away from the connecting rod in order to provide clearance for cleaning the connecting rod bore. When the journal is clear of the connecting rod, cover the journal with a clean cloth and tape the cloth to the journal. This precaution will prevent debris from landing on the journal or from entering an oil passage.

Make sure that the crankshaft rod bore (1) and the backs of rod bearing (2) are clean and dry. Clean the crankshaft rod bore and the backs of the bearing with cleaning fluid in order to remove any oil or rust preventative. Refer to table 3. Install the bearing dry. Refer to Illustration 1.

Coat the crankshaft and connecting rod bearing surfaces (3) with SAE 40 engine oil before installing the piston and rod assembly.Note: Do not use white lithium grease or heavy assembly lube. These lubricants will hold debris in place. The hard surface of the 227-2902 Bearing, unlike the previous bearing, will not allow debris to be imbedded. Debris on the bearing or crankshaft journal can lead to bearing failure.
Torque the rod bolts by following the latest tightening procedure. Refer to Engine News, SEBD9967, 14 November 2014, "A New Torque Procedure for Connecting Rod Bolts Is Now Used on 3600, G3600, and C280 Engines " and Specifications Manual, RENR5907, "Connecting Rod", "Tightening Procedure for Connecting Rod Bolts".
