Remove the recoil spring assembly.
Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily injury. To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure and wear protective equipment.

Place recoil spring assembly (4) onto a suitable press with a minimum capacity of 55 tons or 50 metric tons. Use the suitable press to apply pressure onto plug (3) in order to compress spring (5). Compress spring (5) until there is a slight gap between plate (2) and plug assembly (3). Note: Only remove bolts (1) one bolt at a time while you install Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) onto the recoil spring assembly.
Remove one bolt (1). Leave the washer. Install one Tooling (A) and one Tooling (B) into the bolt hole. Repeat for the remaining bolts (1) until all of Tooling (A) and Tooling (B) are assembled onto the recoil spring assembly, as shown. Note: Use the suitable press, Tooling (A), and Tooling (B) simultaneously to release the pressure on recoil spring (5) in small increments.
Use the suitable press to slowly release the coiled length of spring (5) until there is a slight gap between Tooling (B) and plate (2).
Unscrew Tooling (B) in approximately 25.4 mm (1.00 inch) increments.

Repeat Step 3 and Step 4 until the spring tension is completely released, as shown.
Remove Tooling (A), Tooling (B), plate (2), plug (3), and spring (5) from tube assembly (4). Assembly Procedure

Install spring (5), plug (3) and plate (2) into tube assembly (4). Install Tooling (A) and Tooling (B).
Install recoil spring assembly (5), Tooling (A), and Tooling (B) onto a suitable press with a minimum capacity of 55 tons or 50 metric tons.

Tighten Tooling (B) on Tooling (A) until Tooling (B) is against the washers on plate (2).
Use the suitable press to apply pressure onto plug (3) in order to compress spring (5). Compress spring (5) until there is an approximate distance of 25.4 mm (1.00 inch) between Tooling (A) and the surface of plate (2).
Repeat Step 4 and Step 4 until plate (2) is in contact with the mating surface of tube assembly (4).
