Component Code 1289SUBJECT: 3412 Cleanliness at the Governor Oil Supply Line
PROBLEM:
Debris was present in the cylinder block due to a wash jet not being aimed properly in the final cleaning process. This caused some overspeeds in Griffin on engines with PEEC fuel systems. Recently, there have been overspeed issues in the field on Gensets.
SOLUTION:
Remove and check the PEEC servo valve for debris. If necessary, clean as required in accordance with instructions below.
Procedure for checking and cleaning of the PEEC servo valve:
1. Disable the engine from starting.
2. If fuel inlet and fuel return line are not capped, do so, or connect the two hoses together to eliminate fuel spillage.
3. Loosen the two 7/16 inch bolts under the bracket (A) supporting the Deutsch connectors. (Bolts holes have slotted openings)
4. Remove bracket (A) and sit aside far enough to remove bolts and oil tube on fuel pump housing for the PEEC servo valve.
5. Remove the oil line from fitting (1) and rotate fitting (1) 90 degrees towards inside of engine.
6. Remove the two 7/16 inch bolts (2) from the PEEC servo valve housing.
7. Carefully remove top of housing, the PEEC servo valve, and the spring. (Gasket part number 108-4420)
8. Check for debris in the PEEC servo valve. If none present, reassemble in reverse order. If debris is present continue.
9. Replace top of servo valve housing only ? Do not install valve or spring.
10. Connect 1/2 inch ID x 4 feet long hose to 90 degree fitting out of the PEEC valve housing.
11. Use cheesecloth or suitable material to strain oil.
12. Place end of hose in bucket and crank over engine long enough to wash through 1 to 2 gallons of oil. Check strained oil for debris. If present repeat until strained oil shows no evidence of debris.
13. Remove cover, install PEEC servo valve and spring and reassemble in reverse order, being certain to tighten 9/16 inch jam nut on the 90 degree fitting for oil line out of the PEEC servo valve housing.
Note: If package does not have live batteries installed, using the battery pack, connect the positive cable to the starter solenoid battery post. Then, connect the negative cable to the starter motor battery post. Jump wire number 25 from the solenoid to the battery positive post to crank the engine.
