Introduction
A new piston skirt with only one notch is now used. The asymmetrically designed piston skirt must be assembled correctly in order to avoid engine damage. Note: If the piston skirt is not assembled correctly, the piston cooling jet will be damaged and a piston seizure will occur.Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly Manual in order to remove and install the piston skirts. Refer to the appropriate Specifications Manual in order to find the proper torque specifications.Required Parts
Table 1 contains the parts needed for this change.Note: All six piston skirts must be changed at the same time. Do not use the double notch and single notch piston skirt together.

Replace the obsolete 158-0451 Piston Skirt , the 238-2709 Piston Skirt , and the 197-9379 Piston Skirt (1) with the new single notch 324-7380 Piston Skirt (4). Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 2. The skirt must be assembled to the connecting rod with the part number on the skirt (7) on the same side as the part number (6) on the forged connecting rod. The single notch in the new piston skirt (5) shall be opposite of the cap of the connecting rod. Refer to Illustration 2.
