Adjustment of the Pushrod Between the New Brake Pedal and the Master Cylinder
The Pushrod As is composed of the following parts: 9R-8189 Push Rod, 8T-4133 Nut and 165-6599 Rod End. The Pushrod As is installed between each brake pedal and the master cylinder. You may perform one of two methods in order to adjust the clearance between the pushrod and the master cylinder.Method 1
Insert a 0.8 mm (0.030 inch) feeler gauge between the stop of the pedal and the pushrod. The pedal should be in the up position.Note: Loosen the locknut of the pushrod.
Adjust the rod end until the push rod touches the piston in the master cylinder.
Tighten the locknut against the rod end.
Remove the feeler gauge.
Check the clearance between the pushrod and the master cylinder. The pushrod should freely move from one side to the other side. Depress each pedal one at a time in order to check the pedal travel. The pedal should travel approximately 11 1 mm (0.433 0.039 inch) before increased resistance is felt.
Push each pedal down several times. Recheck the clearance of the pushrods. Method 2
Adjust the pushrod until the pushrod touches the piston of the master cylinder. The brake pedals are in the UP position.
Rotate the push rod between 0.25 to 0.5 turn in the reverse direction.
Tighten the locknut.
Check the clearance of the pushrod by moving the pushrod side to side or depress one pedal at a time. Each pedal should travel approximately 11 1 mm (0.433 0.039 inch) before increased resistance is felt.
Press each brake pedal several times. Recheck the clearance of the pushrods.Note: Some clearance must exist or the brakes will not fully release.
