Solution
Measure rubber tracks in order to determine if the inner circumference meets design specifications before installation. Tracks that do not meet design specifications should not be used.Use the procedure that is provided below in order to determine if the track meets design specifications.Measuring the Rubber Track
Illustration 1 g01763819
To prepare the rubber track for measuring, lay the track on a firm, flat surface. See Illustration 1.Measure the inside surface of the track only. For the 325-8624 Rubber Track , the 278-1215 Rubber Track , and the 278-1219 Rubber Track , measure the side of the track without the outside guide lugs.Note: Facilitate handling of tracks stored outside in cooler temperatures, by placing the track in a temperature controlled environment for a few hours prior to installation.
Illustration 2 g01763837
Locate a compound joint on the inside surface of the track. Mark this location and label this location with an "X", as shown.Note: A compound joint is a seam that can be found on the inside of the rubber track. Then, place the "Zero" end of your ruler at the marked location. Make sure that the end of the ruler is flush with your mark. Align the ruler so that the ruler is approximately 1/2 inch from the outside edge of the track. The ruler should remain parallel to the edge of the track. See Illustration 2.
Illustration 3 g01763877
Hold the ruler in place with your left hand and move to the opposite end of the ruler. Place a mark on the track at the end of the ruler. Label this location with a "1". See Illustration 3.
Illustration 4 g01763882
Roll the track forward so that you can continue your measurement of the inside surface of the track with your rule. See Illustration 4.Note: The previous mark "1" must remain visible for placement of the measuring rule for the next measurement. In addition, the track must be on a flat surface in order to obtain an accurate measurement.
Illustration 5 g01763895
Move the ruler so that the "Zero" end of the ruler is now flush with the mark "1". Again, align the rule so that the rule is approximately 1/2 inch from the outside edge of the track. The rule should remain parallel to the edge of the track. See Illustration 5.Hold the ruler in place with your left hand and move to the opposite end of the ruler. Place a mark on the track at the end of the ruler. Label this location with a "2".
Illustration 6 g01763933
Repeat the process of marking the track until you are within one length of mark "X" on the ruler. See Illustration 6.
Illustration 7 g01763955
Measure the distance between your last mark and your starting point "X". See Illustration 7.Then, add all of the measurements in order to determine the inner circumference. Your measurement should be within 1/8 inch of the measurements from the factory that are provided in Table 1.
