Before starting the operation test, check the nameplate rating on the transfer switch in order to verify that the system voltage is correct. An example of the nameplate is shown in illustration 1.
In order to begin the test, close the circuit breaker for the normal power source. The controller will illuminate the "N SOURCE" LED. The "N" LED is illuminated in order to show that the normal power source is available.
Check the voltages at the terminals for the normal power source.
Close the circuit breaker for the emergency power source.
Start the generator set.The controller will illuminate the "E SOURCE" LED. The "E" LED is illuminated in order to show that the emergency power source is available.
Check the voltages at the terminals for the emergency power source.
Use a phase rotation meter in order to verify that the phase rotation of the emergency power source is equal to the phase rotation of the normal power source.
Shut down the generator set.
Put the generator set control in the automatic position.
Complete a visual inspection of the transfer switch.

(1) Access Code
Initiate the test by pressing the "TEST" button on the keypad of the controller. The controller will then prompt you for your access code (1). The access code is on a white label on the back of the controller. See illustration 2.After entering the access code, three options will appear: load, fast load and no load.Load test - The load test simulates normal line failure. The load is then transferred to the emergency power source.Fast load test - The fast load test presets all of the timer cycles to a maximum of 30 seconds before the switch transfers to the emergency power source. After completion of the test, all of the timers are reset to the original values. No load test - The no load test will start the generator but the no load test does not transfer the load to the emergency power source.
Press the test button that is desired and hold the test button that is desired until the switch transfers to the emergency power source. For the no-load test, hold the button until the generator has run for the desired amount of time.Note: Releasing the "TEST" button before the switch transfers to the emergency power source will terminate the test.
In order to start the transfer back to the normal power source, deactivate the "TEST" button. The transfer switch will complete the transfer back to the normal power source after the delay for the transfer to the normal power source has elapsed. The engine overrun timer allows the generator set to run without a load for a preset cool down period. For the CTSD transfer switches, there is a delay timer which delays the transfer from OPEN to EMERGENCY. There is also a delay timer that delays the transfer from OPEN to NORMAL.
