Assemble
Note: Ensure that all the components are clean and free of debris.
Inspect the seals for the channel plates. Only use seals that are in good condition. Examples of poor condition are seals that are oxidized, torn, or scratched. Install the seals on the channel plates.
Clean the threads on bolts (3). Lubricate the threads with a thin layer of multipurpose grease. Ensure that carrier bars (4) and the extensions for the carrier bars are clean. Lubricate the sliding surfaces of the carrier bars and the extensions for the carrier bars with a thin layer of multipurpose grease. Ensure that the threads on the longer bolts from the 175-5063 Repair Kit are clean. Lubricate the threads of the longer bolts with a thin layer of multipurpose grease.
Use the numbers that were marked on the channel plates as an aid to reassembly. Install the channel plates and seals onto the extensions for carrier bars (4) between fixed plate (1) and pressure plate (2) .Note: Table 1 can be used as a reference during assembly for the correct orientation and the correct location of the plates.

( 1 ) The number plate starts from the frame plate and the number plate works toward the pressure plate.

( 3 ) The medium is on the side of the gasket of the plate.
( 4 ) The flow direction is on the side of the gasket of the plate.Note: The reference number is stamped on the plate. The number needs to be cross referenced with the Caterpillar part number when the engine oil cooler is assembled and parts are ordered.

After all of the channel plates and seals are in position on the carrier bars, push the pressure plate toward the fixed plate. When the package of channel plates and seals is assembled correctly, the edges of the channel plates form a honeycomb pattern. Refer to Illustration 4.
