6V-7070 Digital Multimeter     1    Trucks with the Vital Information Management System (VIMS) do not have an autolube timer. The VIMS sends the signal instead of the autolube timer.Ten minutes after the engine start switch is turned to the ON position, the timer or the VIMS turns on the solenoid. The timer or the VIMS keeps the solenoid on for 75 seconds. Then, the solenoid is turned off. At every 60 minute interval, the timer or the VIMS will turn on the solenoid for 75 seconds. This continues until the keyswitch is turned to the OFF position.The time can be adjusted from five minutes to 120 minutes and the solenoid ON time can be adjusted from 30 seconds to 120 seconds. This is only adjustable with the VIMS.As the solenoid is turned on, the solenoid makes a "click". This "click" can be heard or the "click" can be felt. If the solenoid "click" occurs at the time that is described above, the electrical system is operating properly.If the electrical system is not operating properly, perform the following checks in the order that is given.Solenoid Check
Disconnect plug (4) from receptacle (3). Set the dial of the multimeter to 200 ohms.
Measure the resistance between pin 1 and socket 2 of plug (4) .
The measured resistance should be approximately 40 ohms. If the resistance is not 40 ohms, the solenoid valve is damaged.
Replace the solenoid valve. Reconnect the components.Power Check
This check is for trucks that have an Electronic Monitoring System (EMS).
Disconnect receptacle (1) from plug (2). Turn the engine start switch to the ON position. Set the dial of the multimeter to 200 DCV.
Measure the voltage between socket 1 and pin 2 of receptacle (1) .
The measured voltage should be 24 volts. If the voltage is not 24 volts, check the fuse and the wiring from the fuse to receptacle (1) .
Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position and reconnect the components.Timer Check
Disconnect receptacle (3) from plug (4). Set the dial of the multimeter to 200 DCV.
Monitor the voltage between socket 1 and pin 2 of receptacle (3). Turn the engine start switch to the ON position.
Check the voltage after the engine start switch has been turned to the ON position. Wait for ten minutes. The measured voltage should be 24 volts. If the voltage is not 24 volts, check the wiring between receptacle (1) and receptacle (3). If there is no defect in the wiring, the timer has failed.
Turn the engine start switch to the OFF position. Replace the timer. Reconnect the components.
