Information:
3. Heat bearing cone (5) in oil to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C).4. Install the bearing cone (5) on bevel pinion shaft. Make sure bearing cone is against shoulder of shaft. 5. Install two 3/8"-16NC forged eyebolts in cage. Fasten a hoist and install the cage on bevel pinion shaft. 6. Heat bearing cone (6) in oil to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C) and install bearing cone on bevel pinion shaft. 7. Install spanner nut (7). 8. Use tool setup (A), tighten spanner nut (7) until a torque of 10 5 lb.in. (11,5 5,8 cm.kg) is needed to turn shaft. 9. Install lock (9) and spanner nut (8). Bend the lock.10. Put oil on the spider and pinion components before assembly. 11. Install thrust washer (11) and side gear (10) in case.
When installing thrust washers, make sure washers are in correct position on the dowels in cases.
12. Install spider assembly (12) in case. 13. Install side gear (13) and thrust washer (14). 14. Install case (15). Make sure alignment marks on cases are in alignment. Make sure thrust washers are in alignment with dowels in case. 15. Install bolts (16). Tighten bolts to 225 20 lb.ft. (31,2 2,8 mkg). Install lock wire to fasten bolts together in groups of two bolts. 16. Heat bearing cones (17) in oil to a maximum temperature of 275°F (135°C) and install bearing cone on case. 17. Put the bevel gear (18) in position on the case, with the dowel holes in alignment.
Make sure the flange on the case and the contacting surface of bevel gear are clean and free of burrs.
18. Put oil on the face of washers and on the threads of the bolts (19) that fasten the bevel gear to the case. Install the bolts and washers. Tighten all bolts the same amount until they have a torque of 225 20 lb.ft. (31,2 2,8 mkg). Install the lock wire on the bolts. 19. Check the alignment of the dowel holes in the bevel gear and the case. If a new gear and/or case is being used again, the dowels (20) must fit tight in both the gear and the case. If the dowel holes are not in correct alignment, or if the original dowels do not fit tightly, use the following procedure: a) Make the original dowel holes larger by line reaming them to a diameter .9060 .0005 in. (23,01 0,0127 mm) and to a depth of 1.50 in. (38,10 mm).b) Install the larger service dowels with the ends of dowels .125 in. (3,175 mm) above the face (X) of case. c) If a new case is being installed, install thrust washer dowels (21) on inside of case so dimension (Y) will be .145 .002 in. (3,68 0,05 mm) for side gear thrust washers and .114 .002 in. (2,89 0,05 mm) for cup thrust washers. 20. Install bearing cups (22) and using a nylon strap, install
