MOUNTING GP-CYLINDER 3G7970 - Caterpillar

1. Make sure the rubber toric seals are clean and dry. Make sure all metal surfaces that make contact with the rubber toric seals are clean and dry. Use tool (A) to install the Duo-Cone seal in the retainer. Put a small amount of clean oil on the surfaces of the metal seals that make contact with each other. For further information concerning handling and installation of Duo-Cone seals, see Duo-Cone Floating Seals in this module. 2. Install bearing cone (1) on the spindle. 3. Lower the temperature of inner bearing cup (2), and install it in the wheel assembly. 4. Lower the temperature of outer bearing cup (3), and install it in the wheel assembly. 5. Put brake disc (4) in position on the wheel assembly, and install the bolts that hold it. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 270 25 N m (200 18 lb.ft.).6. Make sure the rubber toric seals are clean and dry. Make sure all metal surfaces that make contact with the rubber toric seals are clean and dry. Use tool (A) to install the Duo-Cone seal in the retainer. Put a small amount of clean oil on the surfaces of the metal seals that make contact with each other. 7. Install bearing cone (5) on the hub assembly. 8. Use tooling (B) and a press to install bushing (6) in hub. 9. Fasten tool (C) and a hoist to wheel assembly (7) as shown.10. Put wheel assembly (7) in position on the spindle. 11. Install hub (8) and the bearing cone on the spindle.12. Install nut (9) that holds hub assembly (8) on the spindle. The centerline of torque wrench (10) must be on an imaginary centerline through the center of the wheel as shown.13. Tighten nut (9) with tool (D) while the wheel assembly is being turned slowly with a 203 mm (8 in.) torque wrench. The torque required to turn the wheel must be 8 3 N m (70 27 lb.in.). To obtain the correct torque reading for using other N m (lb.in.) torque wrenches see Adjustment Of Wheel Bearings in Specifications, Form No. SENR2907.14. Turn the wheel slowly at a constant speed for one or more turns to check torque after the adjustment has been made. 15. Install lock (12) on the nut. If the holes in the lock are not in alignment with the holes in the hub assembly, tighten the nut an additional amount until alignment can be made.16. Install bolts (13) that hold the lock.17.
