Please read this section before installing UPS View in order to ensure that you have the necessary information and the necessary equipment.PC Requirements
Before you install UPS View, verify that your computer meets the requirements that are in the following list:
Windows 95/98/NT4.0
16 MB of RAM
133 MHz Pentium Processor or a Compatible Processor
TCP/IP Network Protocols and UDP/IP Network Protocols
Modem for Remote Monitoring Over Phone Lines
Network Interface Card (NIC) for Remote Monitoring Over a NetworkInstallation
UPS View connects to the system through the following methods:
A Modem
An RS-232 Serial Port or an RS-485 Serial Port
A NetworkInformation for Connecting with a Network
In order to remotely view the system over the network, the computer must be connected to the system. The connection is via a modem, an RS-485 serial cable, or an RS-232 serial cable. The computer must run Server and the computer must be connected to the network. All of the network's connections are read only connections. If you connect to a network, the server number and the IP address are needed.Information for Connecting with a Modem
If the system has an internal modem, UPS View can connect to the internal modem via a phone line. This is done in order to establish a direct connection.The system uses an analog modem. Do not connect to the modem over digital communication lines.Information for Connecting with an RS-232 Serial Cable or an RS-485 Serial Cable
An RS-232 cable or an RS-485 cable is required in order to enable local monitoring. The cable must be a shielded twisted pair. The cable is used in order to connect the system to UPS View. For the installation of an RS-232 cable or an RS-485 cable, refer to Operations, "Initial Startup Procedure". The phone number for the system's internal modem is needed.The DB9 serial cable is supplied with the NEXG5029 Caterpillar UPS View Software .
