1. Drain the oil from the transmission.2. Remove guard (2).3. Disconnect wire harness (1).4. Remove bolts (6), the washers and grommets (5), and remove housing (4).5. Remove spacer (3) from the transfer gear case. The following steps are for installation of the transmission electronic speed sensor.6. Put spacer (3) and housing (4) in position on the transfer gear case, and install grommets (5), the washers and bolts (6).7. Connect wire harness (1).8. Install guard (2).9. Fill the transmission with oil to the correct level. See the Maintenance Guide.Disassemble Transmission Electronic Speed Sensor
START BY:a. remove transmission electronic speed sensor 1. Remove sensor (2) from housing (1).2. Remove the O-ring seal from sensor (2). 3. Turn gear (3) so that four bolts (4) can be seen through the openings in the gear.4. Remove four bolts (4) that hold the retainer to housing (1). Remove gear (3) and the retainer from the housing. 5. Remove spiral ring (6) that holds bearing (5) to the hub of gear (3). 6. Remove bearing (5) from the gear hub with tooling (A).7. Remove retainer (7) from gear (3).Assemble Transmission Electronic Speed Sensor
1. Put retainer (1) in position on gear (3) as shown.2. Put gear (3) and retainer (1) in a press, and press bearing (2) into position against the shoulder of the gear hub with tool (A). 3. Install spiral ring (4) in groove (5) to hold the bearing in position and the gear hub. 4. Put the gear in position in housing (6). Rotate the retainer so that edge (8) is over hole (7) in the housing. Install the four bolts that hold the retainer to the housing. 5. Put O-ring seal (9) on sensor (10), and install the sensor in housing (6). Tighten the sensor to a torque of 20 to 27 N m (15 to 20 lb.ft.).6. With the gear in a horizontal position as shown, check the gap between the gear and sensor. The gap must be 0.89 0.13 mm (.035 .005 in.).END BY:a. install transmission electronic speed sensor
