The spring of the recoil spring assembly is compressed under several tons of force.Do not attempt to compress or release the tension of the spring with the nut on the end of the retaining rod.Damaged threads on the retaining rod or nut can cause the assembly to come apart with force, resulting in injury or death.

The track is removed from the Illustration for clarity.
Remove bolts (1A) and (3A) and remove guard (1).
Remove bolts (5) and guard (3).
Remove bolts (4) and remove guard (2).

Mark the position of idler (6) on track frame (7).

Install Tooling (A) in the sprocket.

(B) 25 mm (1 inch)
Back up the machine in order to achieve Dimension (B) from the marked location to the new location of the idler. Set the parking brake.

Remove bolt (10) and the washer.
Seat nut (8) against plate (9).
Release the parking brake. Move the machine forward in order to release Tooling (A).
Check for a minimum clearance of 1.5 mm (0.06 inch) between recoil spring assembly (11) and stops (12).
Separate the track. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track - Seperate".

Remove four bolts (13) from the yoke assembly.

Slide idler (6) forward on track frame (7) in order to gain clearance for yoke assembly (14).
Remove yoke assembly (14).

Loosen bolts (15) and remove carrier roller (16).
Remove bolts (18) and stops (17).

Use a suitable lifting device to remove recoil spring assembly (11). The weight of the recoil spring assembly is approximately 53 kg (117 lb).
