Schematic of the Left Brake Pedal Switch 2
Note: This diagnostic code is generated for the 561N, 572R, and the 572R II Pipelayers only. This diagnostic code is recorded when the status of the left brake pedal switch is wrong. The switch closes the circuit between the battery and the ECM when the left brake pedal is fully pressed. A diagnostic code is recorded when the ECM detects an open circuit and the switch is near the floor. The diagnostic code causes the backup circuit for the engagement of the brakes from the left brake pedal to not function. The indicator for the brake on the Caterpillar Monitoring System will FLASH. The left brake will continue to operate correctly. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The Signal circuit (F789-YL(Yellow)) is open or shorted.
+Battery wire (110-RD(Red)) is open.
The switch is not adjusted correctly.
The switch is faulty.
The ECM is faulty. This is unlikely. Note: A diagnostic code with the position sensor for the left brake pedal (CID 1327) can affect the status of the CID 1329 FMI 02 diagnostic code. Also, check for an electrical system fault (CID 0168). Check for any diagnostic codes for the parking brake solenoid (CID 681). Clear CID 0168 diagnostic code, CID 1327 diagnostic code or CID 681 diagnostic code before you proceed. Note: The status of the left brake pedal switch is only updated when the brake pedal is pressed. In order to correctly determine the status of the switch, turn the keyswitch to the ON position while the brake pedal is released. Then, press the brake pedal completely. Use this same procedure in order to clear the diagnostic code after repairs have been made. Test Step 1. CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE TO THE SWITCH.
Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
At the switch, measure the voltage between 110-RD(Red) and frame ground. Expected Result:The voltage should be greater than 22 VDC. Results:
OK - The +battery circuit is being received by the switch. Proceed to test step 2.
NOT OK - There is an open circuit or a short circuit.Repair: Check the spare fuse 1 for the dump valve solenoid. Check for an open circuit or short circuit in wire 110-RD(Red) from spare fuse 1 to the switch. Repair the cause of the open circuit or the short circuit.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK THE SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND.
Disconnect the machine harness from the switch.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness from the secondary brake solenoid.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the ECM.
At machine harness connector J1 and J2, measure the resistance from contact J2-1 (switch signal) to all possible sources of ground. The possible sources of ground are connectors: J1-2, J1-5, J1-7, J1-15, J1-16, J2-3 and frame ground. Expected Result: Each resistance should be greater than 5000 ohms. Results:
OK - The machine harness is not shorted to ground. Proceed to test step 3.
NOT OK - There is a short in the machine harness. The
