The generator set must be aligned when installed or moved into a different position. If the generator set is run at the full continuous rating, the alignment of the generator to the engine must be checked annually.Properly maintain the alignment between the engine and the driven equipment to minimize the following problems:

Special Instruction, REHS0177, "Alignment of the Close Coupled Two Bearing Generators"Keep a record of the measurement of the alignment. The record may be used to check the trend of the alignment. The record may be used to analyze the trend of the alignment.
Loosen generator fool bolts

(1) horizontal and vertical jack screws
(2) adjustable shims
Tighten vertical jack screws (1) to remove weight from adjustable shims
Adjust the shim by holding the bottom portion of the shim and turning the top portion using hands, dowel rods, screw drivers, or similar.While holding the bottom portion of the adjustable shim (2), reduce the height by turning the top portion downwardWhile holding the bottom portion of the adjustable shim (2), increase the height by turning the top portion upward
Realign generator with vertical and horizontal jack screws (1) per established service publications
Retighten generator foot bolts to half of the final torque
Recheck alignment, repeat alignment steps until the generator is in alignment with the given limits of established service publications.
Tighten generator foot bolts to final torque 460 N m (339 lb ft) while using a dial indicator to check for soft foot.
