PRODUCT SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR WATER PUMP SEAL FAILURES IN 3406 (92U) AND 3406B (7FB) TRUCK ENGINES, 1361, PS0231 U-91 C-90 TT-4 This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. When reporting the repair, use "PS0231" as Part Number and "7755" as Group Number. This Service Letter replaces the June 20, 1985 (Revised July, 1985) Service Letter (PS0231). Cross out the June 20, 1985 (Revised July, 1985) Service Letter. Termination Date

Problem
The water pump used on the Affected Product has caused customer dissatisfaction because of a short service life. There have been failures of the water seal, oil seal and impeller. Failures of the water seal can be caused by the use of high silicate antifreeze and/or by too high of concentration of corrosion inhibitors. The customer is expected to maintain the cooling system as recommended in the Operation and Maintenance Guide.

1 - 8T7366 Gasket Kit 1 - 0R1200 Water Pump Group
Action Required
If there has been a water pump failure, remove the water pump and install the remanufactured water pump and gasket kit. Drain the coolant, flush with Caterpillar cooling system cleaner, and refill with a low silicate antifreeze. Coolant system additives should be used as recommended. Install a new water pump only if a remanufactured water pump is not available. WARRANTY ALLOWANCES (SEE ILLUSTRATION)
Parts Disposition
Return the water pumps that are removed according to instructions for warranty return of remanufactured parts.
