Real-time Monitoring
By using the Ethernet Option, multiple users of the UPS View Software that are connected to a Local Area Network can monitor the operation of the Caterpillar UPS simultaneously.Ethernet Interface
Connecting to the Network
The computer running UPSView must have network access to enable monitoring via the network. The UPS must have the Ethernet option installed.Windows XP can have different firewall protection settings for wireless and RJ45 connections. The XP firewall must be configured appropriately for the connection type to be used with UPSView. Check with your Network Administrator to see if UDP packets are enabled on the routers. Text and tile definitions are sent via TCP protocol to the computer while data is sent via UDP, a "fire and forget" packet. If UDP is not enabled, the packets do not get routed to the computer.
The following information must be entered into the UPS prior to connecting via the network.
IP Address
Subnet Mask
Gateway Definition
Port - Should be set at 44600. You may set the speed via the serial connection using UPSView or from the UPS control panel.
Select "PC Settings/Connection Settings" from the UPSView menu bar.

Select "Network Connect".
Input the "Network IP Address" for the UPS.
Input the "Base Network Port Address".Note: Your Network Administrator can assist you with the Network IP and the Base Network Port addresses.

Select the "Connect" button.Your PC should now be connected to the UPS.Internet Interface
By using the Ethernet Option, the Caterpillar UPS allow the user to monitor the system over the Internet by using a Local Area Network.
Network monitoring requires IP address that is statically assigned to the UPS.
Internet monitoring requires a LAN connection to the Internet.SNMP Set-Up
Note: The SNMP information shown below is an example. Get the actual settings from your network administrator.
Connect to the UPS via a serial connection.
Select "UPS Settings/SNMP Configuration" from the drop-down menu.

Place the UPS in bypass.
Enter the "SNMP Trap IP Address number".
Enter the "SNMP Port number".
Enter the "SNMP Trap Port number".
Enter the "SNMP Community String".
Select the "Send" button to store the information in the UPS.
Select the "Receive" button to view the current settings stored in the UPS.
Select the "Test" button. This selection sends a test to the "SNMP Trap IP addresses" to ensure that the settings are correct.
Select the "Close" button to close out the window.

SNMP configuration change menuE-mail Notification
Ethernet Connection enables e-mail messages to be broadcast to all people on the receipt list at one time for all Notice events and all Alarm events. The e-mail messages contain the following information: UPS model, serial number, physical location and the triggering event E-mail messages are broadcast to all recipients.
E-mail requires the Remote Notification option and a connection to a Local Area Network with an SMTP e-mail server.Email Setup and Operation
