1U-5470 Engine Pressure Group 1 Use the 1U-5470 Engine Pressure Group to measure the engine oil pressure. Follow the instructions in Special Instruction, SEHS8907, "Using the 1U-5470 Engine Pressure Group" that is included with the tool.
Work carefully around an engine that is running. Engine parts that are hot, or parts that are moving, can cause personal injury.

Plug for the gallery for the engine oil
Remove a plug from the gallery for the engine oil. Connect a line of a pressure gauge from the 1U-5470 Engine Pressure Group into the opening. Note: For engine oil pressure to the camshaft and the main bearings, measure the pressure from the gallery on each side of the cylinder block.
Start the engine. Allow the engine to reach operating temperature.
Record the value of the engine oil pressure when the engine oil temperature has reached 100 °C (212 °F).

Locate the point that intersects the lines for the engine rpm and for the engine oil pressure on the graph in Illustration 2. The results must fall within the “ACCEPTABLE” range on the graph. There is a problem if the results fall within the “NOT ACCEPTABLE” range.
Compare the recorded engine oil pressure with the oil pressure indicators on the instrument panel. A faulty engine oil pressure indicator or a faulty sensor can provide false indications of low oil pressure or high oil pressure. If there is a notable difference between the engine oil pressure readings, determine the cause.If the engine oil pressure is too low or too high, determine the cause and correct the condition. If the engine oil pressure gauge or the engine oil pressure sensor is incorrect, replace the suspect component.Note: A record of engine oil pressure can be used as an indication of possible engine problems or damage. A possible problem could exist if the engine oil pressure suddenly increases or decreases 70 kPa (10 psi) and the engine oil pressure is in the “ACCEPTABLE” range. Inspect the engine and correct the problem.
