Start By:a. remove steering clutches 1. Remove bolts (1) that hold lock (2) to the pinion flange. Remove lock (2).2. Remove nut (3) that holds the pinion flange to the pinion. 3. Remove cork seal (4) from the pinion.
Do not loosen pinion flange (5) without nut (3) installed on the pinion.
4. Install nut (3) on the pinion again with approximately 3.18 mm (.125 in.) clearance between the nut and the pinion flange.5. Install tooling (A) and loosen pinion flange (5) from the pinion. Remove tooling (A), nut and pinion flange. The following steps are for installation of the pinion flanges.
Make sure the splines are clean, dry and free of burrs before installation of the pinion flange.
6. Put pinion flange (5) in position on the pinion. Use tooling (B) and install pinion flange (5) on the pinion with a force of 133 to 178 kN (15 to 20 ton). The distance between the face of the pinion flange and the shoulder of the pinion must be 3.0 0.8 mm (.12 .03 in.).7. Install cork seal (4) on the pinion flange.8. Put 9S3263 Thread Lock on the threads and install nut (3). Tighten the nut to a torque of 475 47 N m (350 35 lb.ft.).9. Put lock (2) in position and install two bolts (1) that hold the lock to the pinion flange. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 244 25 N m (180 20 lb.ft.).End By:a. install steering clutches
