11. Fasten a hoist to brake piston housing (11) as shown. Remove the brake piston housing from the brake disc housing. The weight of the brake piston housing is 82 kg (180 lb). 12. Remove six plugs (12) from the brake piston housing.13. Turn the housing over, and put it on wood block as shown. 14. Install tooling (B) and a piece of bar stock (14) that is 51 mm (2 in) long and 19.1 mm (.75 in) in diameter for removal of the spring guides and return springs for the friction discs and outer plates.15. Put pressure on the spring guide with tooling (B) until pin (13) can be removed. Remove pin (13). Release the pressure on the spring guide, and remove it and the return spring from the brake piston housing. Remove the other five spring guides and return springs the same way. 16. Install three 3/8" - 16 NC forcing screws in the piston. Tighten the forcing screws evenly until the piston is loose in the brake piston housing. Remove piston (15). 17. Remove O-ring seals (16) from the piston. 18. Remove eight bolts (17) and sleeve (18) from the brake piston housing. Remove the O-ring seal from the sleeve. 19. Remove bearing cone (19) and spacer (20) from the spindle. 20. Remove eight outer plates (21) and seven friction discs (22) from the brake disc housing. 21. Install two 3/8" - 16 NC forged eyebolts in the brake disc housing as shown. Fasten a hoist to the eyebolts. Remove brake disc housing (23). The weight of the brake disc housing is 66 kg (145 lb).22. Remove O-ring seals (24) from the spindle. The weight of the spindle is 191 kg (420 lb).23. If necessary, remove the twenty two studs from the spindle.Assemble Wheel Assemblies & Wheel Brake Assemblies (3RL1-UP & 92Z559-UP)
1. Check the condition of all O-ring seals used in the wheel assembly and wheel brake assembly. If any of the seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement. 2. Heat bearing cone (1) to a maximum temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install the bearing cone on the hub. Be sure the bearing cone makes contact with the shoulder on the hub. 3. Turn the hub over. Lower the temperature of bushing (2), and install it in the hub. Be sure the bushing is installed below the outside surface of the hub. 4. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (3). Install the bearing cup in the wheel assembly as shown. Be sure the bearing cup makes contact with the counterbore in the wheel assembly. 5. Turn the wheel assembly over. Lower the temperature of bearing cup (4). Install the bearing cup in the wheel assembly as shown. Be sure the bearing cup makes contact with the counterbore in the wheel assembly. 6. Fasten the hub assembly to tooling (A) as shown.7. Fasten lifting straps and a hoist to wheel assembly (5) as shown. Put the wheel assembly in position on the hub assembly.
