It is strongly recommended to install the cold climate kit for the machines running in temperatures below −25° C to −40° C (−13° F to −40° F).Crankcase ventilation gases contain a large quantity of water vapor. This water vapor can freeze in cold ambient conditions and can plug or damage the crankcase ventilation system. If the engine is operated in temperatures below −25° C (−13° F), measures must be taken to prevent freezing and plugging of the breather system. Insulated hoses and a heater canister assembly should be installed.Consult with your CAT dealer for the recommended breather components for operation from −25° C to −40° C (−13° F to −40° F).Refer to Special Instruction , REHS3758 for the procedure to install the cold climate kit for all machines.For 538, 548, and 558 forest machines, refer to Special Instruction, M0095894 for the procedure to install the electrical harness.The special instruction referenced above contains information that pertains to install the heater breather system.The special instruction is available through the normal literature distribution system.
