Remove bolts (1) and cover (2) .

Remove shaft (3) .
Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET).
Open the access door on the left side of the machine.

Attach tooling (A) to pressure tap (4) and (5) .
Remove the floorplate in the operator's station.

Attach tooling (A) to pressure tap (6) and (7) .
Replace the floorplate in the operator station.
The following test assumes that the ECM is set to the following parameters:
Maximum forward ground speed is 10 km/h (6 mph).
Reverse ground speed is 100% of forward ground speed.
Start the engine. Warm the hydraulic oil to 50° 10°C (122° 18°F).
Operate the engine at LOW IDLE.
Fully depress the decelerator/brake pedal.
Release the parking brake.
Select the highest maximum ground speed setting.
Increase the engine speed to HIGH IDLE.
Move the speed and direction control into the FORWARD position. Move the control lever fully to the LEFT.
Slowly release the decelerator/brake pedal.
Go to the "Status" screen in Cat ET.
Check the following items:
Engine speed
Drive pressure for the front pump (4)
Drive pressure for the rear pump (7)
Speed of the left drive motor
Speed of the right drive motor
The engine speed should be 2100 100 rpm.
The drive pressure for the front pump at pressure tap (4) should be 5000 2000 kPa (725 300 psi).
The drive pressure for the rear pump at pressure tap (7) should be 5000 2000 kPa (725 300 psi).
The speed of the left drive motor should be −1700 50 rpm. The speed of the right drive motor should be 1700 50 rpm.
Move the speed and direction control to the NEUTRAL position and allow the tracks to stop.
Move the speed and direction control into the FORWARD position. Move the control lever fully to the RIGHT.
Check the following items:
Engine speed
Drive pressure for the front pump (5)
Drive pressure for the rear pump (6)
Speed of the left drive motor
Speed of the right drive motor
The engine speed should be 2100 100 rpm.
The drive pressure for the front pump at pressure tap (5) should be 5000 2000 kPa (725 300 psi).
The drive pressure for the rear pump at pressure tap (6) should be 5000 2000 kPa (725 300 psi) .
The speed of the left drive motor should be −1700 50 rpm for the following machines. The speed of the right drive motor should be 1700 50 rpm for the following machines:
Move the speed and direction control to the NEUTRAL position.
Decrease engine speed to LOW IDLE.
Engage the parking brake.
Stop the engine.
If the motor speeds are out of the specification, recalibrate the speed and direction control. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Calibration". Perform the steering test again.
After all of the tests have been completed, remove the test equipment and install the floorplate.
