Schematic for the torque limiting controlThis diagnostic code is associated with the torque limiting control. The torque limiting control is connected to two inputs of the Power Train/Chassis Electronic Control Module (ECM). One contact is open and the other contact is grounded during proper operation. The FMI 04 means that the ECM has determined that the normally open contact and the normally closed contacts are grounded.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these diagnostic codes and clear these diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 3716 FMI 04 is active before performing this procedure.System Response:When this diagnostic code occurs, the machine will remain in the standard torque mode.Test Step 1. CHECK THE TORQUE LIMITING CONTROL
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
Start the engine.
At the machine harness connector for the Power Train/Chassis ECM, remove J2-53 (wire H797-OR).
The status of the diagnostic code changes as the wire is removed and the wire is installed.
At the machine harness connector for the Power Train/Chassis ECM, remove J2-54 (wire H796-YL).
The status of the diagnostic code changes as the wire is removed and the wire is installed.Expected Result:If the torque limiting control is not the cause of the diagnostic code, the diagnostic code remains active. If the torque limiting control has failed, the diagnostic code remains not active. Results:
YES - The diagnostic code remains active. The torque limiting control has not failed. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - The diagnostic code changes from an active state to an inactive state. The torque limiting control has failed.Repair: "CHECK THE TORQUE LIMITING CONTROL" in order to verify that the torque limiting control has failed. Replace the torque limiting control.STOPTest Step 2. CHECK FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Stop the engine.
Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors from the ECM.
Disconnect the machine harness connector from the torque limiting control.
At the J2 machine harness connector for the ECM, measure the resistance from the signal contact J2-53 (wire H797-OR) and signal contact J2-54 (wire H796-YL) to all possible sources of frame ground. Expected Result:The resistance for each measurement should be greater than 5 ohms. Results:
YES - Each resistance measurement is greater than 5 ohms. The harness is correct. The ECM may have failed. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - Each resistance measurement is less than 5 ohms. The machine harness has failed.Repair: There is a short in the machine harness. The short is between the signal (wire H796-YL) or between signal contact (wire H797-OR and the wire with the lowest resistance measurement. Repair the machine harness or replace the machine harnessSTOPTest Step 3. CHECK IF THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE REMAINS
Inspect the contacts of the harness connectors and clean the connectors.
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn the disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position.
Operate the machine.
Determine if CID 3716 FMI 04 is present.Expected Result:The CID 3716 FMI 04 is active. Results:
YES - The CID 3716 FMI 04 is
