Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Illustration 1 g00869866Note: It is not necessary to remove oil temperature regulator housing (2) from the engine in order to remove the oil temperature regulators.Note: The electrical connections and the other variations in the models could require the additional removals or disconnections before the component is removed.
Disconnect any electrical connections.
Remove ten bolts (1) that hold cover (3) to oil temperature regulator housing (2).
Remove the following components: cover (3), the gasket and tube (4). Check the gasket for wear or damage. Replace the gasket, if necessary.

Remove oil temperature regulators (5) from oil temperature regulator housing (2).
Remove the lip type seals from the oil temperature regulator housing. Installation Procedure

Use Tool (A). Install the lip type seals in housing (2). The lip of the seal must face away from cover (3).
Install oil temperature regulators (5) in the oil temperature regulator housing.

Install the new O-ring seals on tube (4). Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seals.
Put the following components in place on the oil temperature regulator housing: tube (4), the gasket and cover (3).
Install bolts (1).
Connect any electrical connections. End By:
Check the oil level of the engine. Refer to the Operation And Maintenance Manual.
